Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Spotlights Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who established a foundation, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to young musicians aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the organisation, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," the musician remarked. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
