Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
